Numerische Strömungsberechnung

Beschreibung

The numerical flow simulation uses a numerical solution for the conservation equations of continuity, momentum and energy. The possible applications range from the modelling of laminar and turbulent internal and external flow, the calculation of temperatures including heat exchange, to the recording of mixing processes, mass transfer and propagation of concentration fields.
At the Institut für Luft- und Kältetechnik, computational fluid dynamics is used, among other things, to investigate phenomena in indoor air flows. Simulation tools from ANSYS and / or OpenFOAM are used. Typical results of such a simulation are local temperature and velocity distributions, which allow statements about the comfort in buildings or common areas.

Multiphase simulation
In nature, multiphase flows usually occur. These can be taken into account in a simulation, from mass transport and the explicit resolution of phase boundaries to the calculation of individual droplets.
The aim of smoke and fire simulations is to simulate the indoor air flow for defined fire cases. This involves checking whether previously agreed protection targets are being adhered to in order to propose measures for risk reduction if necessary.

Numerical optimization of assemblies
The flow simulation of assemblies with the help of numerics enables the further development as well as the improvement, for example, of efficiencies without the time-consuming production of all optimization stages. Once the geometry of a prototype has been calculated, it can be manufactured and experimentally investigated.

Vehicle aerodynamics
The flow simulation of rail and motor vehicles is an alternative to cost-intensive investigations, for example in wind tunnels.
It enables the optimization of external and internal flows at an early stage of development or the improvement of existing vehicles.
