About us
A start-up: over 100 years young
Theben is a leading premium provider of intelligent solutions for the sustainable automation of infrastructure in and around buildings. The group of companies is headquartered in Haigerloch, Swabia. It has numerous subsidiaries in Germany, Europe, Asia and Australia and is also represented in over 60 countries worldwide.
The technology company specializes in the development, production and sale of time switches and controls, presence and motion detectors, systems for KNX building automation, DALI lighting control and smart homes, as well as in the field of smart energy.
Sustainable building services planning with Human Centered Building Automation
Human needs often stand in the way of efficient energy use. The concept of Human Centered Building Automation focuses on reducing the energy requirements of building technology without sacrificing comfort. With HCBA, Theben has a fast and at the same time sustainable instrument to fight the energy and climate crisis. In the short term, it can be used to smartly reduce energy consumption in the building sector without sacrificing comfort for the user. In the medium term, the concept helps to further reduce energy-intensive building technology.
Certified and awarded
Theben is certified according to quality management DIN EN ISO 9001:2000 and environmental management ISO 14001. The company offers its customers tailor-made solutions for all applications - easy to install and simple to operate. Many of these have been recognized by prestigious and international design awards such as the Red Dot Award, the iF Design Award, the German Brand Award or the German Design Award.
Comprehensively tested quality
With few exceptions, the entire product range is manufactured in Germany - at the company's headquarters in Haigerloch. In production itself, 100% final inspection ensures that every product leaves the company in perfect condition. In the in-house test laboratory, authorized by the VDE Institute, every development is closely scrutinized, from the initial idea to the prototype to series production readiness.
In Europe's most modern detector laboratory "sensLAB" at the company's headquarters in Haigerloch, Theben quickly and independently tests product developments from the group of passive infrared detectors (PIR). This shortens development times and provides rapid feedback on small changes in the product. Samples for quality control can also be taken regularly from production. The standardized measurements are carried out according to sensNORM specifications. In this way, planners benefit from the improved comparability of different products. For projects with special requirements, such as particularly high ambient temperatures, Theben can provide customers with measurement series for the respective scenarios and prove the functionality of the products.
Top employer in the region and beyond
Just as important as the accolades for our products are the awards we have received as a top employer, including Great Place to Work 2021 and kununu Top Company 2023.

Now also for KNX: Theben LUXA 103 presence detector for indoors and outdoors
KNX presence detector for lighting and HVAC control / Special corridor detectors / Day/night switching
Theben is expanding the LUXA 103 presence detector series for efficient indoor and outdoor lighting and HVAC control with a KNX version. The LUXA 103 S360-12 KNX with circular detection area (360°, Ø 12 m at 3 m mounting height) is ideal for individual and open-plan offices, meeting and storage rooms, cellars and toilets. The LUXA 103 S360-28 KNX with rectangular detection area (360°, 28 x 5 m at 3 m mounting height) functions as a special corridor presence detector. Both devices have 2 channels each for light and HVAC as well as 3 logic channels. A device variant is also available for the KNX smart home system LUXORliving.
The LUXA 103 KNX offers an elegant, compact design and many other advantages: The devices are not only suitable for simple surface mounting, but also for quick ceiling or flush-mounted installation. Using the theSenda Plug app in combination with theSenda B remote control or via the ETS, the presence detectors can be parameterized with minimal effort - even for scene control. With the day/night switchover, separate lux values and run-on times can be preset for day and night operation. The integrated temperature sensor for HVAC control enables numerous additional functions. Thanks to protection class IP 54, operation outdoors and in damp rooms is also possible without any problems.

LUXORliving Smart Start: Simply retrofit KNX Smart Home via radio
Radio-based KNX Smart Home system / Secure thanks to KNX Data Secure / Commissioning without ETS
The growing demands for sustainable construction are increasing the importance of renovating and retrofitting existing buildings. With the radio-based KNX Smart Home system LUXORliving Smart Start, apartments, single and multi-family homes, medical practices, stores or offices can be retrofitted with KNX-based Smart Home functions, even if no KNX installation is available.
LUXORliving Smart Start is based on the current KNX RF standard RF1.It offers all the functions you really need today and in the future, including switching, dimming, blinds, climate, scenes, groups, central OFF, panic function, window contacts, time control and astro function. The range of functions can be flexibly expanded by integrating Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, IFTTT, Ei Electronics, Metzler, HikVision and much more.
Simple commissioning and operation
The KNX radio system requires no system devices such as media couplers or power supply in the consumer unit and, above all, no ETS. Instead, the LUXORliving IP-RF room controller forms the centrepiece in combination with compact push-button actuator modules for switching, dimming and blind control. Thanks to KNX Data Secure, wireless communication is protected against data theft and manipulation. Smart Start is commissioned without ETS via the LUXORplug Windows software. Operation is via LUXORliving IP-RF, push-button, LUXORplay app or voice. Remote control is optionally possible via the secure Theben Cloud.
The flat push-button actuator modules instead of conventional flush-mounted RF actuators plus push-buttons simplify installation. Without system devices such as power supply and media couplers and without an ETS licence, costs can be significantly reduced. In addition, subsequent integration into wired KNX systems is possible without any problems, which means that investments are optimally protected.
Simple entry to the smart home for ambient assisted living
LUXORliving Smart Start also has another aspect in mind: Demographic change will cause the need and demand for assistance systems to skyrocket in the coming years. Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) with a radio-based system like LUXORliving Smart Start offers many options for making everyday life easier, protecting people from harm and improving their quality of life. Getting into the smart home can be so simple and future-proof.
