VIROBUSTER PCM-MODULES

A PCM storage unit (Phase Changing Material) is a special energy source with a large volume of thermal energy that can absorb cold or heat and release it again when required. When the material in the modules melts, it absorbs heat from the environment and cools the surrounding air. When it solidifies/freezes, it releases the stored heat again.
This principle enables efficient temperature regulation by storing and releasing thermal energy without the need for additional energy sources.

HOW THE PCM MODULES WORK IN AN AIR HANDLING UNIT

The VIROBUSTER EcoCool+ system consists of two ventilation circuits:
The supply air circuit is responsible for charging and discharging the PCM modules with energy, while the process air is cooled or heated using the stored energy from the PCM modules via the recirculation circuit.
In the upper section, cold outside air is drawn in, filtered, desinfected with the VIROBUSTER UV tubes and then used to cool the PCM modules so that they can later absorb heat. In the lower section, the regenerated PCM modules cool the warm recirculated process air.
As soon as the PCM modules in the lower section reach their storage capacity, the air flow is automatically redirected so that the cooled upper modules take over the cooling, while the lower section is regenerated again by the outside air.
This innovative system offers clear advantages over conventional solutions and - depending on the location - provides virtually free energy for cooling or heating for 7 to 10 months of the year.
