A climate-neutral future: ISH 2025 presents sustainable technologies for buildings

13 Mar 2025

How to protect the climate is one of the greatest challenges facing us today and the building sector has a key role to play in this. In Europe, buildings account for some 40 percent of energy consumed and 36 percent of energy-related greenhouse gas emissions. Thus, innovative technologies, renewable energies, the efficient use of water and intelligent control systems are essential if we are to achieve our climate targets. 2,183 exhibitors from 54 nations are showing the industry’s latest solutions at ISH 2025 in Frankfurt am Main from 17 to 21 March.

Under the motto ‘Solutions for a sustainable future’, ISH 2025 is focusing on key issues for the sanitary and HVAC sector in respect to climate protection, e.g., modern sanitary concepts to optimise water consumption, energy-efficient heat generators to reduce CO₂ emissions, the latest technologies to improve indoor-air quality and smart building automation to intelligently control energy consumption. Digital applications and sustainable production processes also contribute to a climate-neutral building sector. The innovations are being showcased by 2,183 exhibitors from 54 countries. Besides Germany, most of them from Italy, China, Turkey, Poland, Spain, the Netherlands, Austria, the Czech Republic and India. Altogether, 72 percent of exhibitors come from outside Germany, a high level of internationality that gives trade visitors comprehensive insights into global market trends and the latest technologies.

“The sanitary and HVAC sector is continuously developing important innovations that can drive forward the energy revolution and contribute to progress in the heating supply and water management sectors. However, full-scale implementation will only succeed if we work together under the right conditions. ISH is the leading platform for the industry, where manufacturers, planners, tradespeople and political decision-makers come together to develop sustainable solutions and actively shape the future of the built world,” says Wolfgang Marzin, President and CEO of Messe Frankfurt.

A new concept for new challenges

The main issues facing the sanitary and HVAC sector are also reflected by the structure of the trade fair, which opens this year with a new format. The restructuring is based on surveys of visitors regarding their requirements and interests, as well as discussions with partners and exhibitors. Today, the industry's portfolio is focusing more and more on complete systems and integrated solutions. Planners, tradespeople and operators are also increasingly looking for comprehensive, integrated concepts, and the new ISH structure takes this development into account. At its core are eight solution fields that provide rapid orientation: bathrooms, water-bearing systems, installation, heat generation, indoor air, intelligent building management, software and sanitary & HVAC production. In line with the times, sustainability and digitalisation play an important role in all segments. Additionally, the trade fair is accompanied by a multifaceted programme of events offering in-depth insights into topics of current interest to the industry and providing opportunities for an exchange of ideas and information, as well as for networking.

Value of Water Conference: new impulses for the future of water management

The ‘Value of Water Conference’ at ISH on 17 and 18 March 2025 is focused on the key role played by water as a vital resource. This new conference at the Congress Centre of Frankfurt Fair and Exhibition Centre has been organised by Messe Frankfurt in cooperation with Euroforum and focuses on UN Sustainable Development Goal No. 6, which targets global access to clean water and sanitary facilities. To this end, the conference brings together international experts from the worlds of business, science and politics to discuss sustainable water utilisation, innovative technologies and forward-looking strategies.

Building Future Conference: ways to climate-neutral building-services technology

The Building Future Conference, which is being held during ISH 2025 in the Portalhaus of Frankfurt Fair and Exhibition Centre from 17 to 20 March, revolves around the question of how buildings can be made more sustainable. Experts from the worlds of politics, business and science will discuss the general conditions and the innovations needed to push ahead with the energy revolution in the building sector. Among the topics discussed are climate-friendly building concepts, an efficient energy supply and the industry's contribution to achieving climate goals. The conference organisers are Messe Frankfurt in cooperation with partners such as the Federation of the German Heating Industry (BDH), the Association of Air Conditioning and Ventilation in Buildings (FGK), the German Association for Energy Efficiency in Building Services (VdZ), the German Sanitation, Heating and Air Conditioning Association (ZVSHK), as well as several other national and international trade associations.
