Plan your splash – wellness with a view: efficient solutions for pools, saunas and spas

Stand of SPAs, Pools & Wellness

Thinking ahead to feel good together – that is the motto of the Spas, Pools & Wellness special area. Here you will find solutions for private bathing and wellness fun at home as well as ideas for municipal swimming pools, saunas and hotel facilities. Swimming, sweating, feeling good and coming to yourself – is that also possible in a resource-saving way? Of course. Exhibitors will be showing how to operate pool and wellness facilities in an energy-efficient and water-saving way. For example, did you know that there are accessories that both significantly reduce energy consumption and minimise evaporation?

Thinking ahead to feel good together – that was the motto of the Spas, Pools & Wellness special area. Solutions for private bathing and wellness fun at home as well as ideas for municipal swimming pools, saunas and hotel facilities were available here. Swimming, sweating, feeling good and coming to yourself – is that also possible in a resource-saving way? Of course. Exhibitors showed how to operate pool and wellness facilities in an energy-efficient and water-saving way. For example, did you know that there are accessories that both significantly reduce energy consumption and minimise evaporation?

But the swimming pool and wellness industry doesn't just have one approach to realising sustainable concepts that promote the health and well-being of their users while also keeping an eye on the well-being of nature. Because pool people and sauna specialists are thinking ahead. And they are doing it together – from the public and private sectors. Swimming pools and spas are more than just sports facilities or oases of refreshment. They can be places for people to meet and interact. This applies to both the private garden and the municipal swimming pool.

The programme of talks in the special area covered a wide range of topics, with a particular focus on the sustainable operation of swimming pools and spas. Saving energy, water and resources does not mean sacrificing design and elegance, as the exhibitors also showed. Today's pools, saunas and spas are ‘morning-oriented’. With future-oriented technologies, they prove that pleasure and responsibility can be reconciled.

The special area was supported by the German Association for swimming pools and SPAs (bsw), the German Association for Recreational and Medicinal Bathing (DGfdB) and the Deutscher Sauna-Bund (DSB).

Logo bsw

The German Association for swimming pools and SPAs (bsw) is a professional association service provider and offers a comprehensive industry network of the swimming pool and wellness industry in Germany and Europe, especially for the private sector, particularly for private pools. It represents around 280 primarily medium-sized member companies from all stages of the industry's value chain – swimming pool builders, specialist wholesalers and manufacturers.

The association regularly organises dialogue platforms and numerous other events where specialists in the swimming pool and wellness industry can get to know each other, exchange experiences, work together and further educate themselves. The association's technical and marketing experts, in particular, develop practical guidelines, leaflets, checklists and brochures. Association members also transfer their knowledge to other industries and committees and are active, for example, in DIN and CEN.

Logo DGfdB

The German Association for Recreational and Medicinal Bathing (DGfdB) is the most important platform in Germany and Europe for matters concerning public baths. It is a professional and umbrella organisation that sets the rules for the industry, with over 1,600 members in the public swimming pool sector, including around 1,000 bath operators, 300 architecture and engineering firms, 180 manufacturers and 20 associations.

In our latest association project, we worked with Z_punkt, our partner for strategic future consultancy from Cologne, to explore ways in which spas can become central players and facilitators in overcoming municipal transformation tasks. We want to focus on the opportunities and potential of public baths in the municipal transformation. After all, every change also brings opportunities for the future that need to be seized. To this end, we will present our developed innovation ideas to you, as exhibitor at the special area and in the Speakers Corner, through our managing director Christian Mankel.

Logo Deutscher Sauna-Bund

The German Sauna Association is the world's largest sauna industry association. Its statutory objective is to promote the idea of sauna bathing in Germany and to advise all of the association's members and support them with its range of services. These include a quality system, a marketing advantage for sauna baths and an academy for training and further education.

At Pop up my Bathroom, the focus is on people. Their needs set the standard for layout, functionality and design. It’s where the day begins and where it winds down – the bathroom is a space for daily routines, moments of relaxation and everything in between. In the 2025 edition of Pop up my Bathroom, the bathroom therefore transformed into a stage: actors brought the three trend houses to life and guided tours lead visitors through the trend exhibition, showcasing key product innovations in the context of industry-relevant interior design trends.

What will the bathroom of tomorrow look like? The three trend houses provided answers and presented three important developments in bathroom design.

Bathroom Lab: New colours, new material combinations and future studies - the catwalk of innovations in the Bathroom Lab showed what the future of the bathroom could look like. There was also a selection of ultra-flat shower surfaces - including the longest of its kind.

Living Bathroom: What goes on behind the bathroom wall? This became visible in the Living Bathroom.

Lifestyle Bathroom: Here, renowned designers characterised bathroom culture with stylish and ergonomic designs. Stefan Diez for Kaldewei, Antonio Citterio for Duravit and many other renowned designers showed what lifestyle-oriented bathroom design can look like.

The content of the trend show was communicated and discussed at the adjoining Design Plaza lecture forum while subsequent guided tours took visitors through the trend show with innovations in the Bathrooms solution field.

With its Pop up my Bathroom Trend Forum, VDS once again focused on the latest trends and tendencies in the sanitary industry via keynote speeches, round tables and the popular CEO talks and speed briefings introduced at last ISH.

Green Roofs & Facades

Green roofs and facades offer a variety of advantages that go far beyond simply beautifying buildings. They play a crucial role in urban rainwater management, help to improve the microclimate and promote biodiversity in densely populated areas. In the face of increasing urbanisation and climate change, the greening of buildings is becoming more and more important.

  • Energy efficiency and climate adaptation: Green roofs and facades reduce the heating of buildings and thus lower the energy consumption of cooling and heating systems. This not only helps to reduce energy costs, but also to achieve climate targets.
  • Effective rainwater management: green roofs serve as natural retention areas, storing rainwater and releasing it in a controlled manner. This helps to relieve the burden on urban drainage systems and minimise the risk of flooding.
  • Promoting biodiversity and quality of life: green spaces on roofs and facades provide valuable habitats for plants and animals and improve air quality in urban environments.

The ISH special area Green Roofs & Facades offered experts from the fields of planning, architecture and the building trades a unique platform for learning about the latest developments in the area of building greening, acquiring practical knowledge and exchanging ideas with experts. The wide range of information and training opportunities available enabled participants to gain valuable ideas for their own projects and contribute to the promotion of sustainable building methods.

The partners of the special area were the German Association of Building Greening (BuGG), the German Association for Water Recycling and Rainwater Harvesting (FbR) and the German Sanitation, Heating and Air Conditioning Association (ZVSHK).

Meet the Experts

As part of ‘Meet the Experts’, ISH offered the opportunity to exchange ideas with industry experts, discuss the latest developments and strengthen strategic partnerships

Meet the Indoor Air Experts

Area of Meet the Indoor Air Experts

Focus on Expertise: Leading associations at the ISH

A diverse program of lectures and guided tours through the trade fair was the focus of activities in hall 8.0. “Air as a vital ressource – healthy and hygienic”, “Cooling and heating – future-proof and efficient” and “Living space buildings – sustainable and safe” were the main topics at the joint booth of EVIA (European Ventilation Industry Association), FGK (Association of Air-Conditioning and Ventilation in Buildings), RLT-Herstellerverband (Association of Manufacturers of Air Handling Units), VDKF (Association of German Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Specialists) and VDMA Air Handling Technology. Visitors could visit three themed islands, where the five associations provided insights on the above-mentioned areas of knowledge, answer questions and facilitate an exchange between experts. During the guided tours, participants gained compact insights into the product innovations of several companies.

The team of the associations were available for discussions on all aspects of air conditioning, ventilation and refrigeration technology on all days of ISH. The industry is facing a wide range of topics for discussion: Anybody who deals professionally with heat pumps or refrigeration and air conditioning systems can hardly avoid a discussion about refrigerants, PFAS and the F-Gas Regulation at the moment. Other key focus areas include energy efficiency, which is associated with renovation, heat recovery, eco-design and retrofitting, indoor air quality in residential and non-residential buildings. These topics are required by the European Buildings Directive (EPBD) and is closely linked to ventilation and air conditioning systems, air filtration, humidity and residential ventilation. Other important topics include fire protection and smoke extraction. Sustainability and monitoring are other areas of concern for the industry, as are digitalization and the shortage of skilled workers.

Meet the Wood Energy Experts

Area of Meet the Wood Energy Experts

With the special area Wood Energy, ISH sent a strong signal in favour of wood as a renewable energy source. Wood energy accounts for 6 per cent of Germany's final energy consumption and provides over two-thirds of the renewable energies used in buildings. Ninety per cent of the CO2-free renewable energy wood comes from German forests. These are sustainably managed on a legal basis.

The Wood Energy umbrella organisation was made up of the Initiative Holzwärme and its eight member associations. An attractive special area of around 220 m² was available where industry, trade and forestry and agriculture showcased high-tech solutions for the sustainable, clean and efficient use of wood energy.

At the centre of the special area, a speakers' corner and a lounge provided an opportunity for a professional exchange between experts from industry and trade on the one hand and the movers and shakers of the special area on the other. An attractive and highly topical programme of talks, keynote speeches and presentations by the partners of the special area addressed the current political situation in Germany and Europe with relevance for wood energy.

The debate covered topics including the German parliamentary elections and the impact of the newly installed EU Commission on the use of wood as a renewable energy source in Germany and Europe. In addition, the organisers reported on current technological trends, but also on political framework conditions, such as the GEG, the funding landscape and RED III, as well as Ecodesign.

The Special Area was organised by the BDH and ZVSHK associations and the Initiative Holzwärme.
