RadCon - Pressure Independent Radiator Valve
Pressure Independent Radiator Valve
Frese RadCon is a pressure independent Radiator Valve (PIRV) for use in 2-pipe radiator systems.
Combined with the elegant thermostatic sensor head RadCon provides optimal comfort along with the highest energy efficiency and easy commissioning.
The valve can be preset from 20 l/h to 340 l/h (0.006 l/s to 0.094 l/s) and provides modulating control regardless of any fluctuations in the differential pressure of the radiator system.
It combines an externally adjustable presetting, a differential pressure controller and a modulating radiator valve.
100% control of the water flow in the building is achieved easily, while creating high comfort and energy savings. At the same time maximizing the ΔT is possible due to the increased system stability.
Benefits - Design

MODULA
Bypass Unit
MODULA is a compact and versatile valve system that combines the range of dynamic flow, pressure and temperature control valves with isolation, flushing, draining and measurement components within a prefabricated, tested and ready to install terminal bypass unit.
MODULA integrates one of the following valve solutions:
- OPTIMA Compact (Pressure Independent Control Valve - PICV)
- ALPHA (Dynamic Flow Limiting Valve)
- SIGMA Compact (Externally Adjustable Dynamic Flow Limiting Valve)
- PV Compact (Adjustable Differential Pressure Control Valve)
- STBV range (Adjustable Manual Balancing Valve)
Each unit can be supplied with isolation valves, strainer, drain/hose connection & P/T plug.
Benefits
The MODULA Bypass Unit combines the many benefits of the OPTIMA Compact, ALPHA, SIGMA Compact, PV Compact and STBV range in addition to:
Installation benefits
- Compact design for limited space availability
- Minimized installation and commissioning costs
- Allows easy flushing and coil isolation
- Easy lagging of spindle extensions
Operation benefits
- High comfort with minimized operation and maintenance costs
- Efficient flow, temperature and pressure control
- 5 modes of operation

PV Compact
Save pump energy and ensure trouble free commissioning of the system with the PV Compact Valve
The PV Compact is a dynamic, adjustable differential pressure control valve designed using the common Frese COMPACT design platform seen in the popular OPTIMA Compact and SIGMA Compact valves.
By design, the PV Compact has a high Kv value which means it achieves the lowest pressure loss of any comparable differential pressure control valve contributing towards lower pump energy consumption and ultimately saving energy.
The compact design of the PV Compact makes installation easy, especially in systems with limited space availability and the external, tamper-proof pre-setting device on the valve allows the differential pressure to be set and adjusted on site with minimal disruption to the operation of the system.
The partner system valve for the supply side can be provided as part of the solution.
Setting the PV Compact is quick and easy using the simple and clear pre-setting device on the top of the valve - and with PV Compact, Spectrum-series it is even .
The required set point can be determined using the official Frese flow graphs or the Frese APP
Differential Pressure Control
Differential pressure control valves can be used in both domestic and commercial heating and cooling systems.
Due to fluctuating differential pressures, heating and cooling systems can often create noise as a result of the thermostatic control valves being unable to close fully.
Despite the more regular use of variable speed pumps in larger systems, the differential pressure is likely to increase when the system is in a partial load condition potentially resulting in an increase in system noise and the inefficient regulation of control valves.
A differential pressure control valve, like PV Compact or PV Compact, Spectrum-series ensures that the differential pressure across a circuit or load remains constant under all conditions,
protecting the thermostatic radiator valves and control valves from any increase in differential pressure thus ensuring good modulating control and a reduced risk of noise

COMBIFLOW
With the COMBIFLOW 6-way solution, you need only one valve and one actuator to achieve complete pressure independent balancing and control
This solution - which is a world’s first - allows our customers to reduce some of the complexity in 4-pipe heating and cooling systems by minimizing the number of required valve components.
By integrating the differential pressure controller in the valve, you have fewer connection points, which minimizes potential leakage problems, and with just one actuator you only need one data point to the building’s BMS.
Frese COMBIFLOW 6-way is designed to cover a wide flow range. This simplifies the selection process, since a limited product range can cover a wide variety of needs. In addition, an extremely high flow capability has made it possible to downsize the valve dimension, further contributing to the valve’s compact design. A low flow version is also available
The energy saving capabilities of our patented OPTIMA Compact are also found in the 6-way solution. Additionally, the COMBIFLOW 6-way has shown the lowest pressure loss known in the market, resulting in significant pump energy savings.
Application
The COMBIFLOW is used in 4-pipe systems, such as:
- Heating and cooling via radiant panels
- Decentralised ventilation units
- Fan coil systems
- Convection heating & cooling units
Features
- Patented “6-way PICV” technology eliminates overflows, regardless of fluctuating system pressure
- Differential pressure (DP) controller integrated within the 6-way valve
- Single valve and actuator for flowrate modulation and switching between cooling and heating circuits
- Separate flowrate pre-sets for cooling and heating via BACnet or Modbus
- Constant differential pressure guarantees 100% authority
- Ultra-high KVS value with minimal pressure loss
- Achieves high flows with minimal required differential pressure due to advanced design of the PICV
- Integrated pressure relief in closed position to allow for contraction or expansion when not heating or cooling
- Removable differential pressure cartridge
Benefits
- Precise flow modulation without need for a second valve and second actuator and without separate flowrate feedback, reduces bill of materials and assembly and commissioning work with less risk of leakage through connectors
- Compact solution with small space requirements
- Complete solution. No balancing valves or additional PICVs required
- Large bores ensure lowest pressure loss of any 6-way solution, lowering required pump head and energy used and potentially pump size, leading to substantial savings
- Removable DP-cartridge makes flushing at full flow efficient and draining simple, without the need to disconnect and reseal pipe connections
- Only one data point required to connect to the BMS
- Remote flow setting via BACnet or Modbus
- Longer lifetime of the actuator and lower power consumption since all pressure fluctuations are compensated by the integrated DP controller and not by continuous adjustment of actuator position
- Simple and fast sizing, just select design flow
